“No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks” combines shadow puppets, silhouetted actors, and live music to tell the life of the first African American writer to win the Pulitzer Prize. The pre-show lecture and reading, “We are Each Other’s Harvest: A Gathering of Poets,” is free to ticket holders (but pre-registration is required as seating is limited). Kim discusses how Gwendolyn Brooks, May Miller, and Georgia Douglas Johnson nourished a vibrant community of poets. Then, Dwayne B of Spit Dat hosts a poetry reading featuring Morgan Butler, Brandon Douglas, and Marjan Naderi. Pre-show runs from 6:30 to 7:30; main event starts at 8:00 pm. Admission fee for both: $40 ($35 in advance).
