Kim leads “They Walk on the Sea: Personification and Gender.” In this workshop, participants will look at some of the complex ways that gender operates as they create a voice for an inanimate object or abstract concept. This is the first in a series of five free poetry workshops, led by a slate of five LGBTQ+ writers-in-residence.
For a six-month period beginning in January 2023, the Arts Club is host to five poets: Kim, Malik Thompson, Tanya Olson, Dan Vera, and Sunu P. Chandy. As part of their residency, each month from January through May, a different poet will offer an in-person class that allows the public to focus on an aspect of poetic inspiration. Participants will read and discuss selected poems, then write the draft of a poem in response. No prior poetry writing experience is required. Free admission, but limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration is required.
